further information. Practical training A theory course must be attended within the first year of practical training and practical training must be completed within 3 years of the date of attendance of a recognised menopause theory course. This is supervised by a principal trainer in menopause who will conduct a learning needs assessment and plan a suitable and individualized programme. Skills training, competencies agreed and all relevant tutorials and discussion are recorded in a logbook (ffprhc.org.uk/pdfs/Menopause.pdf) Certification Membership of the British Menopause Society is encouraged before the certificate can be granted and in order to keep up to date. When the required level of competencies are met a "Certificate in Menopause Care" can be awarded. This would indicate the ability to practice to a standard desirable for work within an established clinic or in primary care. Further training, a course project and a higher level of competency can lead to the award of an "Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care" which would recognize the ability to lead a Menopause Service. The three day BMS/RCOG training course can be offered as an alternative for those seeking the advanced certificate but the interactive style of the two day course is more suitable for the basic certificate. Trainers Trainers are jointly approved by both the British Menopause Society and the Faculty. They have both extensive experience of working in the field of menopause and either Training the Trainers or Faculty Registered Trainer status.
